The Nation : Jurist Decision Seen Near
Administration and congressional sources confirmed that a meeting would be held at the White House today that could be the final session to decide on a Supreme Court nominee. The Reagan Administration presented the names of about a dozen possible Supreme Court nominees to key senators. Later, the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman said some potential nominees would sail through, but others would be in for “a very hot summer†in the Senate. Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) said he and Senate Majority Leader Robert C. Byrd held blunt discussions on the list with Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III and White House Chief of Staff Howard H. Baker Jr.
