Los Angeles police sought a man they say kidnaped his estranged wife in hopes of ransoming her for the couple’s car. The trade-in attempt was foiled, and police were looking for Armando Pesqueira, 28, of Pomona, and his sister, Maria Pesqueira, 25. Their brother, Frank Pesqueira, 18, was arrested as he tried to drive the 1985 Nissan away, Detective Edward Hopson said, adding that “he’s not saying very much at this time.†The victim, Ana Cronkite, 22, was released unharmed, he said. Two men abducted Cronkite as she left the district attorney’s office downtown, witnesses said. Hopson said a district attorney’s investigator had rejected Cronkite’s request to file charges of sexual harassment against her husband for allegedly abusing their two children. The two are separated and involved in disputes over custody and personal property.
