JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Former New Jersey Net guard Micheal Ray Richardson, banned from the National Basketball Assn. in 1986 for violating its drug policy a third time, signed Tuesday with the Jersey Jammers of the United States Basketball League.
Richardson, 32, was let go Sunday by the Long Island Knights of the USBL for shooting too much and not following the team’s game plan, club officials said. They stressed that the four-time NBA All-Star’s release did not result from a failure to pass drug tests.
The USBL team said Richardson passed each test administered this season.
Richardson made his debut for the Jammers Tuesday night and scored 14 points in 35 minutes. Richardson hit only 4 of 18 field goal attempts and had six rebounds.
