A new computerized system that matches donated organs to potential recipients will set priorities for those waiting for a transplant and should eliminate any perception of unfairness in the life or death decisions, officials said. Under the United Network for Organ Sharing system, developed at the University of Pittsburgh, physicians would be required to supply information on donated organs to the system, which would pick the most appropriate recipient, said Dr. John McDonald, president of the Richmond, Va., organization. The system will be incorporated into the national transplant network by fall.
