K. McLean, 90; D-Day Planner

LONDON — Lt. Gen. Sir Kenneth Graeme McLean, one of the planners of the D-Day invasion in World War II, died in Scotland, a death notice published here said Tuesday. He was 90 and died Friday at a hospital in Galashiels, the notice said.
McLean helped draw up the plans for Operation Overlord, the code name for the Allied invasion of Europe on June 6, 1944, which led to the defeat of Hitler’s Germany 11 months later. He was assigned to explain the invasion planning to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Launched from England’s south coast against Normandy in France, it was the greatest seaborne invasion in history, with 300,000 American, British, French and other Allied troops, 5,000 ships and 10,700 aircraft taking part.
