I am disappointed that ABC will not be renewing “Starman” in the fall. At a time when many films promote negative stereotypes of men as violent and insensitive, “Starman” has been performing a public service by presenting a model of a man concerned about interpersonal relationships and developing a positive relationship with his son. The show was written, produced and acted well. It is unfortunate that socially meaningful programs do not always receive the highest ratings; such programs need to be promoted more, not dropped.
