Director Alan Rudolph and Alive Films co-chairwoman Carolyn Pfeiffer sign their lives away in order to finance a $3.7-million film while “Ishtar,” that infamous “Desert Classic,” is virtually granted a blank check (“Modern Times,” by Jack Mathews, May 31).
The budget of “The Moderns” is considerably less than either “Ishtar” or the salary of its stars.
Something is wrong in this place called Hollywood and it will probably never be right as long as the green light flashes for the wrong people and reasons.
