Orange County Roundup : Long Board Surfing Competition Starts Today in San Clemente

Jill Harrington and Brian Pajer have been selected as UC Irvine’s Pacific Coast Athletic Association scholar-athletes of the year.
Harrington, a junior who competes in track and cross-country, qualified for the 1987 NCAA track championships in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters. She has a 3.40 grade-point average in studio art.
Pajer, a sophomore who has qualified for the NCAA finals in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke two straight seasons, has a 3.24 grade-point average in physics.
Scott Brooks, who averaged 23.8 points for Irvine’s basketball team, has been named the school’s outstanding athlete for 1987. Brooks was named first-team All-PCAA and honorable mention All-America.
Kati Spencer, an all-county selection last year as a senior at Eureka High School, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Chapman College.
Spencer, 6-feet, led Eureka to a 12-0 league record and a 26-3 overall mark last season.
Doug Neely of Chapman College has been selected to play in the Budweiser Soccer Classic in Ohio June 23.
Neely, an All-Region selection with the Panthers, will play in the four-team indoor classic at the Richfield Coliseum. The event, which takes place the day before the Major Indoor Soccer League draft, is sponsored by the league and Budweiser.
