San Clemente : Crash Into Truck Parked on Freeway Kills Marine
A 21-year-old Marine from Camp Pendleton was killed Tuesday when his car struck a pickup truck parked near the center divider on Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol said.
The Marine’s identity was not released pending notification of relatives, a CHP spokeswoman said.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. when the Marine’s car swerved into the center divider for an unknown reason. The car struck the disabled truck and injured two people who were standing nearby.
The truck’s driver, James Garner, 28, of Pasadena, was treated and released with minor injuries at San Clemente Hospital, the spokeswoman said.
Garner’s passenger, Guy Burnett, 28, of Roland Heights, was also treated for minor injuries and released.
