Overcoming the Fear of Flying
Travelers who have flight fright may learn to smile aloft with the help of a book entitled “White Knuckles--Getting Over Your Fear of Flying.†It outlines how a plane functions from takeoff to landing, explaines air pockets and other in-flight experiences, and offers relaxation techniques and exercises.
The author, Layne Ridley, said that her personal terror developed into this self-help book when she decided she couldn’t go through life clutching the armrests.
Ridley said the people who are most prone to fear of flying are “normal, intelligent, sensitive people with some breadth of imagination.†The book is published by Doubleday in paperback for $5.95.
