A sheriff’s deputy in La Mirada shot and wounded a man he said tried to run him down after ramming his patrol car. Deputy Mike Ford said Deputy Sam Ferri saw an automobile parked in the 12600 block of Meadowgreen Road that matched the description of one that had earlier eluded deputies seeking to issue a traffic citation. The deputy stopped to investigate when he saw its brake lights were on. As Ferri walked to the car, Ford said, the engine started and the vehicle suddenly accelerated in reverse toward him. Ford said the car crashed into Ferri’s patrol vehicle and then turned toward him, at which point Ferri opened fire. The car’s driver, David Joseph Canfield, 26, of El Monte, was treated at La Mirada Medical Center for a minor bullet wound in the right arm and was booked at County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
