Thousands Oaks Wins in 22 Innings
Freshman Phronsie Franco scored on a single by freshman Amy Chellevold with two outs in the bottom of the 22nd inning Tuesday as Thousand Oaks defeated Righetti, 1-0, in the second round of the Southern Section 4-A softball playoffs at Thousand Oaks.
The four-hour, 10-minute victory marked the farthest any softball team from Thousand Oaks has advanced in the playoffs.
Junior right-hander Shireen Campbell (13-6) pitched a complete game, struck out 11 and picked up her fifth shutout of the season. Campbell threw 216 pitches in the game.
Heather Compton (17-2) of Righetti (26-3) had 32 strikeouts and also pitched a complete game.
Thousand Oaks (21-8) will play St. Paul in the quarterfinals on Thursday. St. Paul defeated Rolling Hills, 3-2, Tuesday.
Sophomore first baseman Jamie Heggen had three hits for Thousand Oaks.
