Gunmen killed a former member of Northern Ireland’s security forces and a deliveryman in separate shootings, police said. Charles Watson, 35, was killed at his home in Clough, about 25 miles south of Belfast, by two men believed to be members of the Irish Republican Army. Watson, a Protestant, was a former prison guard and soldier in the Ulster Defense Regiment, a locally recruited British army unit. Dermot Hackett, a Catholic, was found dead in a bread truck near Drumquin, about 75 miles west of Belfast. Police believe Hackett was killed by Protestant extremists in revenge for the slaying of Watson.
