Terry Crisp, a candidate for several NHL coaching positions, was named coach of the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Crisp, who coached Calgary’s Moncton farm club for the last two seasons, replaces Bob Johnson, who resigned Wednesday to become executive director of the Amateur Hockey Assn. of the United States.

Crisp, who turns 44 Thursday, said he was close to signing as coach with another NHL team. He had interviewed for several NHL vacancies over the last year.
