Planes Collide; 1 Body Found
TEHACHAPI, Calif. — An Air Force training jet and a small civilian plane collided in mid-air over the Tehachapi mountains today, the Air Force reported. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said at least one body was recovered.
Air Force Sgt. Lora Wray said a T-38 Talon aircraft carrying a crew of two from Edwards Air Force Base was involved in a collision with a single-engine civilian aircraft between Mojave and Tehachapi about 11:18 a.m. Sheriff’s Lt. Jack Campbell said the remains of at least one person were found at the crash site. A motorist reported seeing a parachute and crews were looking for one crew member who apparently ejected, said John Metcalf, a Kern County fire dispatcher.
