A rise in second-quarter and six-month profit and sales by Akron, Ohio-based Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. was a reflection of improved operating results by substantially all of its business units, the firm reported. Earnings in 1987 also were increased by after-tax foreign currency gains of $5 million in the second quarter, compared to losses of $2 million in the 1986 quarter.
