Australia’s Jenny Byrne upset second-seeded Zina Garrison, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round of the $100,000 Geneva Open women’s tennis tournament Wednesday.

Garrison, ranked seventh in the world, looked tired and had trouble with her unseeded opponent’s speed and sharp backhand. Byrne, 20, was the 1985 Australian Open junior champion but never had beaten a top 10 player.

Top-seeded Chris Evert beat 17-year-old Emmanuelle Dely of France, 6-1, 6-4. Defending champion Rafaella Reggi of Italy advanced by beating Sweden’s Carina Karlsson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
