SCC Loses, 8-6, Is Eliminated From Playoffs
Whitworth College of Washington scored five runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat Southern California College, 8-6, Friday night in the Area 1 NAIA baseball playoffs at Oregon City, Ore. Mike Frei hit a grand slam in the first for SCC (24-33), which was eliminated from the tournament by the defeat.
In an earlier game Friday, SCC defeated Lewis and Clark, 15-11, in 11 innings. Joe Holden hit three home runs and Carlos Salzar hit a grand slam in the 11th for the Vanguards.
Holden hit a solo home run in the second, a two-run home run in the sixth and a three-run home run in the eighth that gave SCC an 11-8 lead. Kevin Baker hit a three-run home run in the ninth to tie the score, 11-11.
