Deputy Defender Found Dead
The body of a Los Angeles County deputy public defender was found floating in a hot tub at a West Los Angeles spa early today, with a vial of cocaine nearby, authorities said.
The death of Kelly James Mullins, 35, at the Splash club at 10932 Santa Monica Blvd. is “being handled as an accidental drowning, pending further investigation of toxicological reports,†said LAPD spokesman Bill Frio. Mullins, who checked into the room alone, was found by an attendant floating face down, with the cocaine and a razor blade next to the tub, police said. Mullins had been with the public defender’s office for three years.
