Brentwood : Scout Camp Hearing Monday
The state Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy will sponsor a community meeting Monday to discuss its arrangement with the Boy Scouts regarding public use of the Scouts’ Camp Josepho on a reservation-only basis.
The camp in Rustic Canyon, north of Sunset Boulevard between Brentwood and Pacific Palisades, was little known outside scouting circles and the immediate neighborhood until the Scouts agreed to publicize its availability to outside groups in exchange for state financing of road, water- and sewage-system repairs.
Ceremonies marking the opening were overshadowed by protests from the two families nearest the camp, who cited worries about loss of privacy, crime and traffic hazards. The meeting, which starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Brentwood Youth House, 731 S. Bundy Drive, was scheduled because “we want to get a feel for the magnitude of the concern,†said Laura Young, spokeswoman for the conservancy.
