Cruz Singles in 9th; Chapman Wins, 6-5

Mike Cruz’s bases-loaded single in the ninth gave Chapman College a 6-5 victory over Cal Poly Pomona at Hart Park in Orange.

Jeff Kidwiler led off the ninth with a double to center. With one out, Bucky Bollinger singled to left, sending pinch-runner Duke Chinen to third. After Darren Nelson walked on four pitches, Cruz singled off shortstop John Piazza’s glove.

Bollinger had three hits for Chapman (13-15, 25-28). Freshman David Bird (6-4) got the win in relief.

Tom Gormon (7-7) pitched a complete game for Pomona (14-12, 29-27).
