Chinese classical music fans responded to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s first concert in Beijing with roars of “bravo!” and extended rounds of applause. The orchestra, playing before 1,200 people at Beijing Concert Hall, performed Dvorak’s “From the New World” and Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.” Lengthy applause and a standing ovation brought conductor Lorin Maazel back on stage for two encores. Ticket prices cost the equivalent of $2.
