United Press International
NEW DELHI — Giant hailstones killed at least 16 people, injured about 50 others and damaged two airliners that flew through storms battering parts of eastern India last week, the Press Trust of India said Sunday.
The news agency said it received delayed reports that hailstorms Thursday lashed areas around Patna, 550 miles southeast of New Delhi in eastern Bihar state.
Airline officials said hailstones battered an Air India Boeing 747 Friday evening as it flew to Bangkok with about 300 passengers aboard.
