Bill Beebe of Venice won first prize in the annual Santa Monica Bay Halibut Derby. Beebe, whose catch weighed 25.1 pounds and was 42 inches long, donated his $1,000 prize to United Anglers, a sportfishing conservation organization. Floyd Harvey of Los Angeles took second with a 23.8-pound halibut, and Hal Lustig of Encino was third with a 19.8-pounder.
