STAT WATCH : Tagliaferri Heads Kennedy Power Surge

Jeff Burton, Gino Tagliaferri and V.P. Pajcin hit consecutive home runs and combined for 26 total bases in Kennedy’s win over San Fernando last week. At the start of the week, Tagliaferri, a sophomore, had 11 hits in his past 15 at-bats. . . . Westlake’s Matt Franco, Jim Henderson and Greg Struhl hit consecutive home runs in a win over Thousand Oaks last week. All three players have five home runs. . . . After beating Cleveland, 15-0, on April 2, El Camino Real scored seven runs in its next five games. . . . Royal second baseman Mike Keegan has a 10-game hitting streak during which he is 15 for 31.

Streak: Alemany second baseman Randy Thompson was 0 for 9 in a doubleheader against Bell-Jeff last week, then got two hits in the first inning of Alemany’s 16-7 win over North Torrance. Saturday’s win ran Alemany’s streak to 10 straight, or as long as Thompson has worn an NCAA Final Four T-shirt given to him by teammate Jon Beauchemin’s father. In his first at-bat after getting the T-shirt, Thompson hit his first and only home run of the season. Alemany’s streak ended Tuesday with a 10-4 loss to St. Francis.

Pitching: Grant’s Juan Doroteo, a junior right-hander, threw his second one-hitter of the season last week, a 4-1 win over Verdugo Hills. Doroteo (2-3) also one-hit Sylmar earlier this season. Doroteo, who starts at shortstop when he’s not pitching, is 20 for 55 for a .364 average.

Bases on balls: Robert Chavez of Burroughs is batting only .174 but has walked 18 times and has a .530 on-base percentage. . . . Royal’s Joe Summers has walked 17 times. . . . Pitchers Greg Nealon and Nick Lymberopoulos of Poly have walked only 24 batters in 85 combined innings. . . . Alemany’s Brian Rosselli has walked 14 in 36 innings. . . . Montclair Prep’s Scott Hauser has walked 17 in 40 innings.

Softball: La Reina cleanup batter Samantha Bennett is batting .390, but is hitting .563 with runners in scoring position. Bennett has 10 extra-base hits and 21 runs batted in. She had five RBIs and two hits against Bishop Diego.
