House Armed Services Committee Chairman Les Aspin (D-Wis.) and senior member Samuel S. Stratton (D-N.Y.) said they will propose that the new stealth bomber be put up for competition among defense contractors. The bomber, now under development, is intended to be invisible to radar in order to sneak past enemy defenses. The development work on the super-secret project is being done by the Northrop Corp. The two men said in a statement they will propose an amendment to the forthcoming defense bill that would require competitive bidding for production.
