Chinese Plan Crime Crackdown

BEIJING — Police in the southern China city of Canton are planning a crackdown on Hong Kong and Macao criminals whose “capitalist tricks” include drugging their victims before robbing them, the China Daily reported Friday.
Criminals from Hong Kong and Macao have been convicted of car theft, credit-card fraud and smuggling counterfeit money, the newspaper said.
It quoted a police official as saying the criminals had introduced into China criminal tricks that used to be found only in capitalist societies.
The criminals were able to operate in China because there have been more visitors to the mainland in recent years, the official said.
This year China sentenced a Macao man to death for robbing his victim of $7,000 by using drugs, the China Daily said.
