Olympic silver medalist Danny Harris, despite running what he described as a flawed race Friday, handily won the 400-meter hurdles for the fourth straight year in the 78th Drake Relays at Des Moines, Iowa.

Harris’ time of 49.14 seconds was about 1 1/2 seconds slower than his personal best, but it was still good enough to beat long-time rival Henry Amike, who finished in 50.11.

Harris, who was second to Edwin Moses in the 1984 Olympics, is still a student at Iowa State, although he is no longer competing as a collegian.

Vernon George of Texas Southern set a record of 13.49 seconds in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles.

At Philadelphia, Georgetown, anchored by Mike Stahr, won the distance medley relay in the 93rd annual Penn Relays with a world best time of 9:20.96.

Stahr, the NCAA and IC4A Indoor mile champion, took the lead on the gun lap and outlasted Villanova’s Gerry O’Reilly, with Mount St. Mary’s Kip Cheruiyot a couple of steps behind.

The old record of 9:22.6 was set by Arkansas at last year’s Penn Relays.

Penn’s Randy Cox won the 400-meter hurdles in 49.7 seconds over Auburn’s Kevin Henderson, who was clocked in 50.41.
