Workers vacuumed about 150 gallons of hazardous cupric chloride that spilled Friday when an electronics firm’s storage tank overflowed, a Fire Department spokeswoman said.

Officials at the scene said the 6:15 a.m. spill at National Technology, 2525 S. Birch St., did not pose an airborne danger but would be hazardous if it reached water supplies, department spokeswoman Sharon Frank said.

Workers from Los Angeles-based Crosby-Overton Co., hired by National Technology, removed the chemical under supervision of the Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit.
