NBC faces a significant labor deadline this morning. Today is the deadline the network gave the 2,800-strong National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) to accept or reject the network’s contract--something the union members haven’t had since March 31. After today, NBC says it will withdraw retroactivity in wages and other provisions of any pact finally reached. If the deadline passes, terms of the new contract will apply only from the first day of the work week specified in the pact. NABET has been holding a series of meetings around the country with its membership but has not announced a final decision on what action to take.
