DUARTE — A second 20-unit motel-type facility, Parsons Village, has opened at City of Hope Medical Center to provide living quarters for outpatients and relatives of patients.
The five-building complex, funded by a $625,000 grant from the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, is available to families who live more than 50 miles from the medical center. Parsons Village is next to Hope Village, a similar facility built in 1957.
Abraham Bolsky, president of City of Hope, cited a growing need for more residential facilities on the grounds of the center. He said the average stay for parents of a leukemia patient undergoing bone marrow transplantation is 110 days.
