Officer Injured in Crash; Driver Held

A Los Angeles police officer was reported in critical condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital after surgery for injuries he suffered when his small car was hit by an apparent drunk driver, Huntington Beach police reported.
Lt. Jack Reinholtz said a pickup truck driven by Howard Yardley Jr., 28, of Buena Park cut into oncoming traffic at Golden West Street and Talbert Avenue at 3 p.m. Monday and collided with the car driven by Patrick Stanford, 41, of Fountain Valley.
Reinholtz said Yardley was treated for minor injuries and transferred to the jail ward at UCI Medical Center, where he was being held on suspicion of felony drunk driving.
