Oklahoma Gov. Henry Bellmon vetoed a bill that would have allowed homeowners to use force, including shooting to kill, against intruders. Bellmon said the “Make My Day” bill was “well-intentioned,” but it “creates a safe harbor for cunning murderers sly enough to manipulate the statute.” The nickname of the bill comes from a Clint Eastwood film in which a law officer invites a suspect to “make my day” by giving him an excuse to use deadly force.
