The directors of the embattled San Diego Symphony--forced by a $6-million debt to cancel its entire 1986-87 season--say they will resign if that will enhance efforts by Mayor Maureen O’Connor to re-establish the credibility of the orchestra association. In a statement issued Sunday by the San Diego Symphony Assn., the board members also said that symphony management will permit musicians to use its facilities and equipment to self-produce a summer pops season. Efforts to raise money to finance a pops season through the association failed, a symphony spokeswoman said.
