Community College Softball : Fullerton Edges Arizona Western and Wins Title

Fullerton College won its second consecutive softball tournament Sunday as the Hornets defeated Arizona Western, 1-0, in the championship of the Golden West Invitational at Golden West. Fullerton won its own tournament last weekend.
Fullerton’s Annette Gonzales pitched a three-hitter and was voted the most valuable player of the tournament.
The Hornets scored in the fifth inning. Linda Morales led off with a single and took second on a sacrifice. Gonzales singled her to third, and Casey Donaghu doubled her home.
In Golden West Invitational semifinal play:
Arizona Western 1, Golden West 0--Arizona Western scored an unearned run in the fifth inning to advance to the championship game. Karen Nakamaru (7-5) took the loss but hasn’t given up an earned run in 70 consecutive innings.
In College of the Sequoias tournament play:
Rancho Santiago 11, Modesto 2--Terina Franklin was 4 for 4, including a home run and a triple, scored three runs and had four RBIs to led the Dons (20-7) in the first round. Lee Bladow was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and winning pitcher Joyce Lyman (14-3) was 2 for 2.
