A Toulouse-Lautrec painting of a late 19th-Century female cabaret singer was sold for $856,000 at a Paris auction Thursday. The sale of the 1883 Impressionist painting of Jane Avril, a renowned singer in Paris’ Pigalle night life, was the latest in a series of auctions in the French capital marked by fierce competition among American, Japanese and French buyers.
