The White House is working with independent counsel Lawrence E. Walsh and two congressional committees on setting up a system to allow the investigators access to President Reagan’s personal notes in connection with the Iran- contra affair, spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said. The spokesman, however, said it was too early to say exactly what material would be made available. The Washington Post reported that Walsh and the House and Senate select committees were weighing a White House offer to give them joint access to the notes pertaining to the sales of U.S. arms to Iran.
