HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS : Alemany Hits and Is Hit in a 7-6 Win

Providence pitcher Jeff Cirillo forced home the winning run by hitting Bill Horvat and Alemany defeated Providence, 7-6, in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket in the Palos Verdes tournament Saturday.
Cirillo walked two batters and then hit Jon Beauchemin to load the bases. Alemany (10-5) rallied to take a 6-5 lead with a five-run sixth inning that included a two-run homer by Beauchemin and a two-run single by Mike Sims.
SOFTBALL
Stacey Smock pitched a one-hitter as Bell-Jeff defeated Palmdale, 5-2, to win the consolation game of the Hart tournament . . . . Robin Thomas had five RBIs as Newbury Park defeated Western, 8-2, in a quarterfinal game of the Tournament of Champions in Anaheim. . . . . Debbi Day had six strikeouts and homered as Burbank defeated Dos Pueblos, 5-1, to win the Dos Pueblos tournament. In Burbank’s semifinal, Day pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out a season-high 14 as Burbank defeated Santa Maria, 4-0.
