Dick Perry, former athletic director at USC, was named athletic director at UC Riverside. Perry replaced Chris Rinne, who resigned in February.
Perry served as USC’s athletic director from November 1975 until he resigned in May 1984. He then became an associate professor in physical education at the university, a position he held for eight years until he became athletic director.
Perry’s name had been mentioned for the athletic director’s vacancy at Cal State Long Beach. But he withdrew his candidacy.
Until he was hired as UC Riverside’s athletic director, Perry was a consultant to the school’s Chancellor, Ted Hullar, helping to determine the feasibility of the school moving from Division II to Division I status.
