Decimal Point Missed the Mark
There was a slight error in the arithmetic used to calculate the Lakers’ shooting percentage in the second period of their game with Phoenix on March 24. Chris Baker wrote in The Times:
“The Lakers shot a miserable .083% from the floor in the second period . . . they wound up hitting just 2 of 24 shots . . . “
The Lakers in fact hit on 8.3%, not .083%. It would be physically impossible for any team to hit your .083% figure. A team would have to take approximately 2,400 shots in the period and hit 2 of them for the .083% average. That means about 200 shots a minute, or over three shots per second. Even the Lakers can’t generate that pace.
Better check out your tax return before you file. You may be paying more than you should.
