University of Pittsburgh football Coach Mike Gottfried...
University of Pittsburgh football Coach Mike Gottfried said he believes defensive end Tony Woods signed with an agent before the end of the 1986 season, which would be a violation of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules.
Woods was named last week in a New York Supreme Court suit filed by Bloom and agent Norby Walters, who are seeking damages of $50,000 from Woods for allegedly reneging on a contract signed sometime last year.
Pitt is not expected to be penalized by the NCAA because Gottfried and Athletic Director Ed Bozik have been forwarding reports on the Woods case to the NCAA. The school apparently had no prior knowledge of any payments.
