POP/ROCK - March 31, 1987
American folk-rock star Bob Dylan will perform in Israel for the first time this summer, organizers said Sunday. The Israeli performances in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Aug. 29 and 31 will be followed by Dylan’s first tour of Europe in more than a decade, said Gad Oron, a spokesman for the local organizers. The American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will accompany Dylan during his performances in Israel and Europe. Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman, embraced Christianity in the 1970s but was seen in Israel several years ago praying at Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall during his son’s bar mitzvah celebration.
