POP/ROCK - March 31, 1987
West L.A. rock ‘n’ roll mecca Madame Wong’s West is having a grand reopening celebration for four nights beginning Thursday. The club never actually closed, but Esther Wong, 70, announced recently that she was leaving the club business after balking at signing another 10-year lease on the property. But Wong, one of the earliest and steadiest supporters of the local rock scene, said bands and fans wanted her club to stay open so she signed a five-year lease. Reopening attractions include the Prime Movers (Thursday), Psychowich (Friday), the Dig and Joshua (Saturday) and to-be-announced special guests at a free concert on Sunday.
