Takuya Muguruma of Japan knocked out Azael Moran of Panama in the fifth round to win the vacant World Boxing Assn. bantamweight title in a scheduled 15-round fight at Moriguchi, Japan.
American referee Larry Rozadilla counted Moran out at 2:50 of the round after Mugurama had floored him for the second time in the round.
The victory improved Muruguma’s record to 26-1-1 with 19 knockouts. Moran is 16-2. Both fighters weighed 118 pounds.
