Whoopi Goldberg Target of Pickets

About a dozen members of a group concerned about the image of blacks in the media demonstrated Saturday outside a hotel where actress Whoopi Goldberg was appearing and accused her of having a negative influence on young blacks.
“We object to the profanity and vulgarity she exhibits in her work which denigrates our race,” said Hasani Webb, spokeswoman for the Coalition Against Black Exploitation. “She’s not being socially responsible.”
The group marched for more than an hour in the rain outside the Ambassador, where Goldberg was the guest speaker of the Black Women’s Forum.
They carried placards with such messages as “Whoopi, Why Are You So Vulgar?” and “Whoopi Clean Up Your Act.”
Webb blasted the Black Women’s Forum for inviting Goldberg.
“She has a negative influence on black youths,” claimed Webb.
