A Los Angeles County coroner’s autopsy found that Compton Unified School District Police Officer Roosevelt Ferrell died of cardiac arrest brought on by complications of surgery on a bullet wound in his left leg, a spokesman said. Ferrell, 41, shot from ambush on the campus of Chester Adult School last week, died seven days later in Dominguez Medical Center. He is believed to be the first school district sworn officer to die in the line of duty. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the shooting, and two other youths are being sought.
