San Diego High School Baseball : Patrick Henry Routs Oceanside
SAN DIEGO — Patrick Henry High School scored five runs in the fourth inning en route to an 11-2 rout of Oceanside in the Goodman-Pirate baseball tournament at Patrick Henry Tuesday.
Tony McVicar was 3 for 4, including a double and 2 RBIs, to pace the Patriots (2-0-1).
San Pasqual 6, Carlsbad 0--Clint Cruz (2-0) pitched a two-hitter for the shutout at San Pasqual. Todd Bose hit a solo home run in the first inning and Kevin Hearde doubled in three runs in the sixth to pace San Pasqual (2-1). Carlsbad is 0-3.
Fallbrook 4, San Dieguito 0--Mark Ringkamp allowed two hits and struck out seven in six innings at San Dieguito. Jason Rusk led off the second inning with a double and scored on a double by T.J. Flynn to lead Fallbrook (2-1). San Dieguito is 2-1.
HILLTOP-MOOSE
TOURNAMENT El Capitan 14, Hilltop 2--El Capitan (3-1) had seven hits, including three doubles, in the third inning at Hilltop. Starter Rob Arnold (2-0) pitched four innings for the victory. Hilltop is 1-3.
Mission Bay 6, Escondido 3--Starter Sean Rees, who pitched the first four innings, and Scott Vonderlieth combined for a no-hitter at Mission Bay. Mission Bay scored all of its runs in the second inning. Rees, Mike McMahon and Colin Davis each had two hits to pace Mission Bay (2-2).
Poway 10, St. Augustine 4--Brian Korgel’s two-run homer highlighted an eight-run second inning for Poway (2-2) at home. Poway’s Phil Plantier hit his third home run of the season n the third inning. Mike Skaggs (1-1) struck out five and scattered four hits for the complete-game victory.
University of San Diego High School 8, San Marcos 4--USDHS overcame a 4-3 deficit in the seventh inning, scoring five runs at San Marcos. Matt Siesel led off the inning with a triple and scored on Duke Gonzalez’s home run that provided USDHS (4-0) with the winning margin. Gonzalez (1-0) pitched the final three innings. San Marcos is 2-2.
Chula Vista 2, Helix 0--Brian Murphy threw a five-hit shutout to lead Chula Vista (3-17).
SPORTING GOODS
WEST TOURNAMENT Bonita Vista 6, Vista 1--Randy Abshier was 2 for 2 with a triple and 2 RBIs to lead Bonita Vista (1-2) at home. Justin Thomas (1-0) struck out five for the complete-game victory.
CRAWFORD TOURNAMENT Crawford 2, Serra 1--Jeff Thrift’s two-run triple in the third led Crawford (1-3-1) at home. Jeff Wilcox (1-1) went the distance.
La Jolla 8, University City 4--Mark Ulrey hit a two-run double in the fourth and Blake Ellis added two RBIs to pace La Jolla (3-1-1) at University City. Starter Jeff Van (2-0) pitched five innings and Scott Winne threw two no-hit innings in relief for La Jolla. University City is 2-3.
Morse 19, Clairemont 14--Morse (4-1) scored seven runs in the sixth inning and added four in the seventh at Clairemont. Cesar Guzman, who was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs, drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the sixth. Dave Vasquez (2-0) pitched 4 innings. Clairemont, without a victory this season, scored nine runs in the second inning but had six errors.
Mira Mesa 7, Christian 5--Mira Mesa’s Mike Eicher hit a two-run homer in the third inning to tie the score, 3-3. Mira Mesa (4-1) rallied for four runs in the fourth inning at home. Starter Art Maldonado (1-0) pitched four innings.
