A popular Long Beach police dog was seriously injured when he fell from the roof of a three-story building while sniffing out a burglary suspect, police said. A veterinarian said Argo, a rottweiler and six-year Police Department veteran, has a 50% chance of surviving the head and internal injuries, Officer H. Baldwin said. “He was a great dog. He was well trained (and) had a good temperament,†Baldwin said as though he feared Argo was already lost. “I knew him very well personally and I am very upset about it.†Argo, who lives with Officer Mike Kinrade, accompanied the officer to the roof after a search of a building in the 400 block of Pine Avenue turned up no suspects, Baldwin said. The dog seemed to catch sight of someone on the roof of a nearby building and, apparently not realizing he was three stories above ground leaped over a wall and fell the ground, Baldwin said. No arrests were made.
