Considering it was once canceled, “Cagney & Lacey” is doing all right.
The series is just one week away from airing its 100th episode. Since its premiere in 1982, “Cagney & Lacey” has picked up two Emmy Awards as best dramatic series. Tyne Daly, who plays detective Mary Beth Lacey, has been named best actress three times, and co-star Sharon Gless, who portrays her partner Sgt. Chris Cagney, won the honor last year.
In next Monday’s milestone episode on CBS, Mary Beth is arrested when she participates in an off-duty protest rally over the transportation of nuclear waste. Chris tries to get her out of jail, but she insists on staying behind bars.
As for Monday’s story, airing at 10 p.m. on Channels 2 and 8, the officers investigate a murder that may have been committed by a hearing-impaired youngster.
