The Seattle SuperSonics have fired the brother of Lenny Wilkens, Cleveland Cavaliers coach, who was honored by his former team this week during a ceremony in which his old basketball jersey was retired.
Michael Wilkens, who has helped keep statistics for the SuperSonics for seven years, said he was wearing a Cavalier cap during the Seattle-Cleveland game Monday night.
Michael Wilkens said he was approached at the start of the third quarter by SuperSonic vice president Bill Ackerly, who asked him to remove the cap. Wilkens, citing the special circumstances, refused. He was fired Tuesday.
